Bye Pitbull! Hello God!
My favorite time to workout is in the mornings. It makes the rest of my day a little more productive. I drop my babies off at school and head to the gym. This morning I decided that instead of the usual Pitbull overload on Pandora’s Latin Workout station, I would turn on the Bible app and have it read me a few books while I climbed the stairmaster. What a difference. Music is fun, but the word is filling. It’s been a while since I can sit down and read more than a couple of chapters. While getting on my machine, I set up the book of James and turned on the voice reader. I spent my time exercising physically and spiritually. It was amazing.
I have been going through a time where I need God’s wisdom more than ever. I recently took in a teenager as a foster placement. She’s pregnant which brings on a whole new set of challenges. I’m only 34 years old. I have NO idea what the life of a teen on the streets is about. I was one of those little angels in high school. I was never around drugs, sex, drinking, etc. So being put in a situation where I don’t know firsthand what she is going through, I needed wisdom desperately. James 1:5-8 says If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. Since she arrived, wisdom is all I’ve been asking for. So far things have been amazing with her. She is happy and healthy. And we’ve been getting along great. I truly believe that God has taken complete control in my house. We put our lives and home at risk when we take in a stranger. But He keeps us safe. Things are not perfect but we are getting by.
Wisdom to do the right things and to be a comfort when we are needed has come easy for my husband and I. But none of that is because of who we are as people. It is because of who God is molding us to be. We are naturally selfish and imperfect just like most people. God is building our characters to be who He wants us to be. I don’t think she will last long here. She isn’t used to all this love and it’s driving her crazy. But while she’s here, she’s hearing about God’s love and seeing it through our example.
I’m so glad I changed up my routine at the gym today. It made me realize how much we really do need Him. I’m thinking of continuing that new spiritual exercise. Goodbye Pitbull, you are kind of annoying anyway. Hello, Holy Spirit. You are welcome here.
